GUEST SPEAKER: Patricia Altner is enthralled with vampires in paranormal literature, the fastest growing sub-genre in mystery books today. Ms. Altner’s passion began when she first read Bram Stoker's classic novel Dracula (1887). In her words, “Vampires are seductive, powerful, immortal - what more can you ask for?” A former reference librarian who now works as a freelance writer and researcher, she is a scholar in vampire literature and culture. She will speak on the vampire’s role in mystery literature, the attraction of vampire to readers and how the nature and character of vampires have changed since they first appeared in the media.

Alfio’s menu consists of an entrée (choices listed below), a mixed salad, bread and butter, ice cream, and coffee or tea. Sodas and alcoholic drinks may be purchased. Please mail your reservation in time for it to be received by Wednesday, July 9th. In a pinch, you may leave our location coordinator Sandy (301-949-6446 or sandy_balintfy@hotmail.com) a message with your reservation and name. If you call or e-mail Sandy and she does not confirm that she received your reservation, that means she did not receive it. Getting there: By car : Alfio’s is located in the Willoughby Condominiums, 4515 Willard Avenue, at Friendship Boulevard. Free valet parking available. From Virginia: Take the Beltway to the River Road East Exit (heading towards DC). Turn left from River Road onto Willard Avenue. (If you reach Friendship Boulevard, you’ve gone too far). From most of Maryland: Take the Beltway to Wisconsin Avenue going towards DC. Turn right on Willard Avenue. By Metro: Take the Red Line to the Friendship Heights Metro station. Walk down Willard Avenue to about one block past Panera's.
